Véronique Nyberg: A Fragrant Journey Rooted in Nature and Art
Born in a small village in the French Alps, Véronique Nyberg’s passion for plants was sparked by her botanist grandmother. Surrounded by the scents of wildflowers and the natural beauty of her environment, she pursued scientific studies, eventually earning a doctorate in Organic Chemistry.
Véronique’s path into perfumery began with a traineeship in Grasse, where she worked as a raw material quality controller. Though she aspired to become a perfumer, she lacked formal training and prioritized completing her doctorate first. Fate intervened when she joined IFF’s Dutch site as a chemist; her subsequent training with the company opened doors to operational perfumery, leading to her selection for IFF’s perfume school in Grasse.
At the school, Véronique immersed herself in the craft, learning to extract absolutes and master raw materials. Her first fragrance was created in New York, where she discovered the joy of perfume composition. Returning to Paris, she completed her training under the renowned perfumer Dominique Ropion.
Véronique’s approach to fragrance creation is fueled by her passions for art, cooking, and cultural fusion. A self-taught cook, she experiments with bold flavor pairings, often inspired by collaborations with IFF flavorists. This has led to unconventional combinations, such as sandalwood in lychee harmonies.
Art is integral to her life—she draws, paints, sculpts, and explores other creative mediums. Her appreciation for color-texture contrasts and perceptual dynamics influences her perfumery, shaping unique olfactory narratives.
Rooted in her Alpine upbringing, Véronique’s fascination with green notes is a signature trait. She often incorporates vibrant, almost startling green top notes in her creations, alongside white flowers like orange blossom and jasmine.
Notable fragrances in her portfolio includePaco Rabanne Invictus,Lancôme Trésor In Love,Mugler Alien Eau Extraordinaire,Yves Rocher Secret d’Essences Neroli,Guess Guess Seductive,Jimmy Choo Eau de Toilette, andTrussardi Riflesso.
Throughout her career, she has collaborated with prestigious brands like Armand Basi, Calvin Klein, Carolina Herrera, Chopard, Davidoff, Jimmy Choo, Lancôme, and Paco Rabanne. A notable project includes her work withJ.F. Schwarzlose Berlin: in November 2012, the restored German brand reentered the market with four fragrances inspired by classic house scents, reimagined by Véronique to appeal to modern consumers.
