After completing his chemistry studies at university, Tristan Badard ventured to Montpellier, the historic perfume capital, to specialize in perfumery and flavors. During his training, he gained hands-on experience in Grasse and Beijing, which exposed him to two distinct facets of the fragrance industry: traditional perfumery craftsmanship and a more contemporary artistic approach.

Following a brief stint in flavor development at Omega Ingredients, Tristan joined Quintessence Fragrances in 2014. For several years, he worked at the intersection of analytical and creative perfumery, a role that profoundly shaped his craft.

"Working as an analytical perfumer has deeply influenced how I formulate fragrances," he notes. "Analyzing scents from diverse markets and applications has given me extensive expertise, making me a versatile perfumer capable of tackling any technical project. This work also strengthened my understanding of natural and synthetic ingredients—an invaluable asset when addressing creative briefs."

After his years in analytical perfumery, Tristan joined the House of Quintessence, an in-house fragrance atelier dedicated to limited editions, artisanal exclusives, and emerging indie perfume brands.

Tristan’s preferred scents include tuberose (an opulent note he encountered frequently during his year working at Quintessence Fragrances India), labdanum, leather, and honey.

"I create fragrances like I paint—with colors and layers," he explains. "For me, every ingredient—natural or synthetic—has a color, texture, and unique way to resonate and diffuse, and that’s how I build my compositions."
