Roger Howell is a highly respected figure in the global perfumery realm, celebrated for his creative genius and scientific acumen. With over four decades in the industry, his career has been a journey filled with serendipitous turns and remarkable achievements.
Howell's path into perfumery began somewhat by accident. After obtaining a bachelor's degree from New York University, he intended to apply for a lab tech position near his Brooklyn home. Due to a wrong address, he ended up at Elias Fragrances, the creators of Jovan Musk. Although initially there by mistake, he was hired, thus commencing his career in the captivating world of perfumery, though he was unfortunately laid off a year later.
His career took an upward turn when, through a fellow musician, he got an opportunity at J. Manheimer Fragrances. The owner, impressed by Howell's ability to recognize all 21 scents in a test, created a position for him. He spent five fruitful years there, training with the perfumery staff and honing his skills.
Subsequently, Howell held various significant positions. He worked as a perfumer at Bel May West in Los Angeles, helped Intercontinental Fragrances in Houston establish their perfumery department while frequently traveling to France, and later became a senior perfumer at the Lebermuth Company. Currently, he serves as the vice president and chief perfumer of Alpha Aromatics, a U.S. fragrance manufacturer based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a position he has held for nearly a decade.
Throughout his career, Howell has crafted an extensive range of fragrances, satisfying thousands of clients. His works span multiple brands, including those under Michael Malul London, such as Citizen Jack Absolute, Ocean Noir, and 511 Black Tie, each fragrance bearing the mark of his unique creative touch. He has also contributed to the Nick Ricardo Collection with scents like Desire, Mention, Onyx, and Turbulent. Additionally, his creations for Grisi au, such as Sedona and Shambhala, showcase his diverse capabilities.
