  • Doug Falcone Perfumer:

  Company:Givaudan

"Givaudan showed me that I could have a rational business career while still harnessing my creativity," says cross-category perfumer Doug Falcone. Describing his mindset as a balance of rationality and artistry, Doug initially aimed to pursue graphic design, but his logical assessment led him to choose business as a more stable career path. Eventually, he was hired by Givaudan right after college, before attending perfumery school—where evaluators recognized his talent and passion.

Raised in Long Valley, New Jersey, Doug is an outdoor and action sports enthusiast, enjoying activities like climbing, snowboarding, surfing, and hiking. Unsurprisingly, his creative interests gravitate toward natural elements: he particularly favors the floral-fruity notes of rosyfolia and the complex depth of patchouli. "Some of my favorite creations," he notes, "reside in the woody, natural realm—drawing inspiration from pine forest scents or the aroma of a mountain summit."

As a business graduate, Doug credits his non-chemistry background for his experimental creative process. He consciously embraces playfulness and risk-taking, reflecting his easygoing nature. Beyond Givaudan's corporate ethos, what he loves most about his profession is "the ability to express myself within a 'shadow industry' that most people overlook. It's fulfilling to work behind the scenes, anonymously crafting experiences for consumers."
