Versaceis an iconic Italian fashion house founded by the late Gianni Versace, with creative and commercial operations continuing under the stewardship of the Versace family following his passing. Debuting in 1978 with a women’s wear collection, the brand achieved immediate acclaim. That same year, it expanded to include a men’s line and opened its first boutique in Milan. Gianni Versace selected the Medusa as the company’s logo—a symbol that has become synonymous with the brand’s blend of opulence and boldness. The house’s luxurious apparel and accessories are defined by a diverse aesthetic, drawing inspiration from pop art to classical Greek and Roman architectural motifs.

Versace quickly became a celebrity favorite, with Elton John among its earliest admirers. Uniquely among Italian fashion houses, it has consistently featured celebrities in its advertising campaigns. Notable faces of the brand have included Madonna, Ashton Kutcher, Britney Spears, and Halle Berry. The company is also credited with fueling the "supermodel" phenomenon of the 1990s, notably casting every top fashion model in its 1991/1992 Autumn/Winter runway show.

The brand’s portfolio has since expanded to include accessories, home furnishings, and cosmetics. Today, Versace comprises multiple lines:Atelier Versace,Versace Couture(the main line, including the fragrance division),Versace Jeans Couture,Versace Home Collection,Versace Collection, andVersus (Versace). Beyond fashion, the brand extends to hospitality through the Palazzo Versace hotel.

The first Versace fragrance,Gianni Versace for Women, launched in 1981. Men’s and women’s scents are now available under the Versace, Versus, Jeans, and Jeans Couture labels, produced in collaboration with Euroitalia SRL.

After Gianni Versace’s tragic death in 1997 at the hands of an American spree killer, the family continued the brand’s legacy. His sister Donatella, formerly vice-president and head of the Versus division (and the inspiration behind the 1995 fragranceBlonde), took over as creative director. Older brother Santo Versace serves as president and CEO, while niece Allegra Versace holds a 50% ownership stake.
