Valentino SpA is the renowned fashion house founded by Italian designer Valentino Garavani. The company's product lines include Valentino (Haute Couture and Ready-to-wear), Valentino Garavani (shoes and accessories), Valentino Roma (women's ready-to-wear), and RED Valentino (contemporary women's fashion).
Valentino demonstrated early talent for fashion, apprenticing under an aunt and a local designer in Voghera. He furthered his studies in France at the École des Beaux-Arts and the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. After working as an apprentice at Jacques Fath, followed by Balenciaga, Jean Desses, and Guy LaRoche, Valentino returned to Italy in 1959 to establish his own atelier.
Leveraging insights from his Parisian experience, Valentino launched his brand with distinctive elegance. He gained acclaim for his red dresses, so much so that the fashion industry coined "Valentino Red" to describe the signature hue. His international breakthrough came in 1962, catapulting him to global fame and attracting a prestigious clientele. Notable patrons included Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, and Princess Margaret; he designed six dresses for Jacqueline Kennedy during her year of mourning after her husband’s assassination, and later created her wedding gown for her marriage to Aristotle Onassis.
In 1966, an all-white collection—marking the debut of Valentino’s iconic "V" logo—earned critical praise, followed by the Neiman Marcus Fashion Award in 1967. Recognized as a paragon of Italian couture, Valentino dressed celebrities and expanded his empire to over 70 countries. He and his partner sold the company in 1998, and he officially retired in 2007, concluding with a final collection show in January 2008, where top models from his career returned to walk the runway. Since 2008, the brand has been under the creative direction of Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpalo Piccioli, both of whom had worked with Valentino for over a decade.
Valentino has a long-standing fragrance legacy, initially in partnership with Procter & Gamble and, since 2010, with Puig. Our fragrance database features 66 Valentino perfumes, ranging from the earliest edition in 1978 to the latest in 2025. These scents were crafted in collaboration with renowned perfumers, including Givaudan, Antoine Lie, Cécile Matton, Delphine Lebeau, Anne Flipo, and many others, showcasing a diverse portfolio of olfactory artistry.
