American artist, creative director, and perfumer Sarah Baker was born in San Francisco. She studied fine art at the San Francisco Art Institute before earning her MFA at Goldsmiths College in London, where she has resided ever since.

Baker founded her eponymous perfume house in 2015, building on a fragrance-centered art project she collaborated on with the Institute for Art and Olfaction in 2014. Developed in partnership with perfumer Ashley Eden Kessler, the project debuted at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles in 2016, showcasing two new fragrances:LeopardandGreek Keys. What began as an artistic endeavor unexpectedly evolved into the foundation of her brand.

In 2018, Baker launched her flagshipExtrait de Parfum Collectionwith a new bottle and packaging design of her own creation. The design draws inspiration from diverse sources, including the hue of the Golden Gate Bridge and her childhood memories of 1970s graphic design. This new collection also incorporated the original four fragrances from theMotif Collection—Lace,Leopard,Greek Keys, andTartan—now presented in the updated bottle and packaging.

October 2020 marked the launch of theS.BAKER Collection, featuring its own distinct concept. The line debuted with five new eau de parfum fragrances, two of which were crafted by Baker herself. These marked her first compositions for the house, following her immersion in perfumery studies and training as a "nose" since 2014.

As an artist-founded brand, the house occasionally releases numbered limited-edition artist collaborations, each with unique design concepts. A notable example is the popularJungle Jezebeledition by Miguel Matos, featuring a bottle and packaging designed by Sarah Baker, released in 2018.

Designer Sarah Baker Perfumes boasts 22 fragrances in its portfolio. As a relatively new fragrance brand, its earliest creation dates back to 2016, with the latest additions introduced in 2025. The house’s fragrances have been developed in collaboration with esteemed perfumers including Ashley Eden Kessler, Miguel Matos, Sarah McCartney, Chris Maurice, Sarah Baker, and Andreas Wilhelm.
