Roberto Cavalli, the iconic Italian fashion designer, is celebrated for his alluring designs and bold animal prints. Born in 1940 into a family with deep artistic roots—his grandfather, Giuseppe Rossi, was a renowned 19th-century painter—Cavalli pursued studies in art, with a particular focus on textile printing, a skill that would later become instrumental in his illustrious fashion career.
Cavalli revolutionized the industry by developing a distinctive technique for printing on leather, crafting one-of-a-kind patchwork designs that merged various materials. His groundbreaking work in leather printing quickly captivated the fashion world, leading to his debut ready-to-wear collection in Paris in 1970. By 1972, he opened his first boutique in Saint-Tropez, where Brigitte Bardot played a pivotal role in popularizing his creations.
In 1980, Cavalli crossed paths with Eva Duringer, who would become both his muse and future wife. A striking fashion model and runner-up in the Miss Universe pageant—where Cavalli served as a judge—Duringer, nearly 20 years his junior, formed a partnership with him that thrived in love, parenthood, and business.
Cavalli’s innovations in textiles continued to make waves. In 1994, he pioneered a sandblasting technique for denim, reigniting global interest in his brand and paving the way for new boutiques in St. Barth's and Venice. Today, the Cavalli brand is available in over 50 countries, with the name itself embodying the essence of a glamorous Italian lifestyle. The brand’s diverse offerings span menswear, underwear, accessories, vodka, and perfume.
Cavalli’s fragrances are developed in collaboration with ITF Cosmetics. The first scent,Roberto Cavalli for Women, made its debut in 2002. Many of the fragrance bottles and packaging feature the signature animal prints that have become synonymous with the designer. Additionally, the snake motif, a recurring element in Cavalli’s fashion designs, adorns popular fragrances such as Serpentine, Serpentine Silver, Oro, and Anniversary.
