Penhaligon'sis a British perfumery founded in 1870 by William Penhaligon. Originating as a barbershop, the brand introduced its first fragrance,Hammam Bouquet, in 1872. This scent drew inspiration from the neighboring Turkish Bath and its sulfurous steam. A defining moment came withBlenheim Bouquetin 1902—created at the request of the Duke of Marlborough for Blenheim Palace, this best-seller defied the era’s floral trends, captivating audiences with zesty citrus, spices, and woody notes.
Scents were consistently released from the original Jermyn Street shop until it was destroyed in the Blitz of 1941. Though the physical store vanished, the fragrances endured. In 1956, Penhaligon’s received a Royal Warrant from the Duke of Edinburgh for manufacturing toiletries, a testament to its legacy.
Renewed interest emerged in 1975 with the opening of a flagship store in Covent Garden, marking a new direction. The brand resurrected William Penhaligon’s classic formulas and introduced modern floral scents for female customers, notablyBluebellin 1978, which remains a best-seller today. A second Royal Warrant followed in 1988 from the Princess of Wales.
Many original scents were modernized and reintroduced as part of theAnthology Collection, reflecting the brand’s commitment to traditional perfume ingredients and techniques. Penhaligon’s iconic bottles—clear glass adorned with a ribbon—stay true to William Penhaligon’s original design.
Today, the brand offers bath and body care products, luxury shaving accessories, and fragrances. With stores across London and the UK, and availability through select retailers in North America and Europe, Penhaligon’s continues to thrive.
In our fragrance base, Designer Penhaligon’s features 109 perfumes. As an esteemed perfume house, its earliest edition dates to 1872, with the newest released in 2025. Collaborations with renowned perfumers—including Christian Provenzano, Michael Pickthall, Natalie Gracia-Cetto, Alienor Massenet, and many others—have shaped its diverse olfactory portfolio.
