  O Boticário(ancient Portuguese for "The Apothecary") is a Brazilian cosmetics giant, ranking as the country’s second-largest cosmetics company and the world’s largest cosmetics franchise. It boasts over 2,000 stores in Brazil alone, along with 438 points of sale in Japan, widespread presence across South and Central America, and global distribution spanning every continent.

  Founded in 1977 as a single pharmacy in Curitiba, the company launched its first fragrance,Acqua Fresca, in 1979. The first franchise opened in Brasília by 1980, followed by the establishment of its first factory in 1982. By 1985, it had expanded to over 500 stores and entered Portugal in 1986. Today, O Boticário employs approximately 12,000 people across corporate offices, factories, and its franchising network.

  The brand’s extensive product line comprises nearly 500 items, including body care, skincare, sun protection, cosmetics, deodorizing colognes, deodorants, soaps, and shampoos. Many products incorporate regional plant extracts and botanical essences, such as açaí, cupuaçu, carnaúba, guaraná, cashew, passion flower, algae-derived gums, and botanical extracts like arnica and urucum. Committed to philanthropy and conservation, the company established theO Boticário Nature Protection Foundationin 1990. This nonprofit has sponsored hundreds of conservation projects—including research, education, and endangered species protection—and supports theNatural Areas Protection Program, focusing on preserving the Atlantic Rainforest in Paraná state, the company’s birthplace.

  In 2006, O Boticário shifted its fragrance strategy withLily Essence, its first eau de parfum, marking a departure from the light, refreshing colognes and EDTs that dominated its prior collections.
