Montblanc (occasionally labeled "Mont Blanc" on vintage products) is a German enterprise renowned for its premium writing instruments and luxury merchandise.

Founded in 1908 by stationer Claus-Johannes Voss, banker Alfred Nehemias, and engineer August Eberstein, the company initially operated as the Simplo Filler Pen Company. Based in Hamburg, it specialized in crafting high-end pens. A pen produced in 1910 later inspired the company's rebranding as "Montblanc." The iconic "White Star" emblem adorning its products debuted in 1913, drawing inspiration from the summit of Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps. The company gained prominence with its first fountain pen, the Meisterstück ("Masterpiece"), introduced in 1924 and still in production today. The Meisterstück's success fueled international expansion and export. Since 1929, all Meisterstück pen nibs have been engraved with "4810"—the height of Mont Blanc. In 1934, the company renamed itself Montblanc-Simplo GmbH and launched its first piston pen filler.

By 1935, Montblanc expanded its product line to include leather goods like pen pouches, notebooks, and writing cases. Its manufacturing facilities were destroyed during World War II but were reconstructed, with production continuing in Denmark during the rebuilding phase.

While new pen models have been introduced, Meisterstück pens remain the brand’s cornerstone, continuously refined over the years. A resurgence of interest in fountain pens in the 1980s enabled Montblanc to enter the Asian market. The brand also began opening exclusive boutiques in the 1990s, and vintage Montblanc pens have become highly sought-after collector’s items.

In the 1970s, Dunhill acquired a majority stake in Montblanc, which was later purchased by the Richemont Group. Richemont, parent to luxury houses like Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels, has since expanded Montblanc’s offerings to include larger leather goods (e.g., attaché cases), jewelry, and watches. Fragrances joined the brand’s portfolio in 2001 with the women’s scentPresence. In 2005, the men’s fragranceStarwalkerlaunched alongside a matching pen and the Timewalker men’s watch collection. Montblanc fragrances are developed in collaboration with Inter Parfums Inc.
