The perfume house of Parfums Montale was founded by Pierre Montale in 2003 in Paris. Prior to its establishment, Pierre Montale spent time in Saudi Arabia, where he crafted perfumes for nobility, kings, and queens. Upon returning to Paris, the perfumer introduced his remarkable oriental creations to the Western world. The mysterious allure of the East, Arabia, and the perfumer's deep affection for these elements are embodied in each bottle of the Montale collection.
Montale formulates its fragrances using high-quality natural materials in concentrated doses, resulting in scents that are intensely aromatic and long-lasting. The aluminum bottles were specially designed to protect the precious essences from light degradation.
The brand offers men's, women's, and unisex fragrances, with key ingredients including precious woods such as incense, aoud (agarwood), cedar, sandalwood, and other materials cherished by Arabian perfumers. Aoud or agarwood holds a particularly significant place in the collection. Oud Pafums Montale stands as the first French perfume line dedicated to aoud—a royal ingredient in every sense, revered as an aphrodisiac in the East.
Aoud is an aromatic oleoresin (also known as aggor, agarwood, eagleswood, aloeswood; in Arabian, "oud" or "oudh"). This oleoresin is produced by the Aquillaria tree as an immunological response to infection by thePhialophora parasiticamold. When infected, the tree generates this precious, dark, fragrant resin within its trunk. Oud and its extracts are extremely valuable, priced 1.5 times higher than gold, earning it nicknames like "liquid gold" or "the wood of gods."
Designer Montale features 163 perfumes in our fragrance database. The earliest edition dates to 2005, with the most recent release in 2025. All fragrances are the creation of nose Pierre Montale.
