Masaki Matsushima was born in Nagoya in 1963. After completing his education, he studied at Bunka Fashion College—one of Japan’s most prestigious institutions—where he counted Issey Miyake among his mentors. In 1992, Matsushima launched his eponymous label and unveiled his debut fashion collection, which centers on reimagining Japanese traditions as contemporary wardrobe staples.
He expanded into fragrances in 2000, debuting his first perfume line in 2001. This initial range featured scents all incorporating the word "mat" in their names. For women,mat;pinkis a floral-fruity blend, while the men’smat;blueoffers a citrus-aromatic profile with notes of tea, juniper, bamboo, mint, bergamot, rose, lotus, and musk. The aromatic men’s scentM; Menarrived in 2006, featuring musk, nutmeg, lemon, grapefruit, tea, bamboo, rosemary, and vetiver.M;0°Cevokes the crispness of a cold Scandinavian morning, defined by notes of frozen apple sorbet, Chimayo cocktail (a mix of apple juice, tequila, and ice), citrus, bellflower, musky undertones, and woody accords.
Masaki Aqua Platinum(2010) is a woody-spicy fragrance with grapefruit, yuzu, mint, iris, cashmere wood, Virginia cedar, musk, cardamom, and pepper.Masaki Art Masaki(2009) is a women’s scent with floral notes and musk, whileMasaki Shiro(2010) offers a sheer white floral aroma grounded in musky and woody base notes.
