Lush is a UK-based cosmetics company founded by Mark and Mo Constantine, with deep roots in the cosmetology industry. Mark Constantine, a trained trichologist specializing in hair and scalp health, partnered with beauty therapist Liz Weir to establish the "Herbal Hair and Beauty Clinic" in 1977. Here, they began blending their own products, crafting hand-blended, botanical-based formulations that stood out from commercial offerings of the era.

Their innovative approach caught the attention of Anita Roddick, the British beauty entrepreneur and founder of The Body Shop. Constantine and Weir PLC started producing products for The Body Shop's fledgling stores while maintaining focus on their clinic and independent ventures. In 1984, Ms. Roddick acquired their company, prompting a new chapter for the duo.

In 1987, Constantine and Weir launched "Cosmetics to Go," a mail-order enterprise marketing products exclusively through catalogs. This venture was later sold to Jeff Brown, a fragrance designer who had worked with the company.

The modern iteration of Lush emerged in 1994 under the name "Cosmetic House," rebranding to "LUSH" (trademarked in uppercase) in 1995 following a customer-naming contest. Starting with a small store in Poole, the brand crafted soaps and body care products using fresh fruits, vegetables, plants, and safe synthetic ingredients, advertising daily specials on a chalkboard outside the shop. The products attracted loyal customers from Cosmetics to Go and secured investors, enabling expansions to Covent Garden, Kings Road, and beyond. The first overseas store opened in Canada, with subsequent locations and factories spanning 40 countries, including the US, Japan, and Europe.

Lush is renowned for its minimalist, eco-friendly packaging, commitment to animal-free ingredients, opposition to animal testing, and distinctive aromas. In 2003, the brand launched the perfume company "B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful," with fragrances developed by Mark and his son, Simon Constantine. Unable to sustain profitability as a standalone entity, the brand was integrated into Lush in 2009, with its perfumes rebranded as "Gorilla Perfumes" and sold through Lush stores and catalogs.

Within our fragrance database, Designer Lush features 208 perfumes, ranging from the earliest edition created in 1989 to the latest in 2025. These scents were developed in collaboration with perfumers Mark Constantine, Pia Long, Emma Dick, Alina Gliwinska, Simon Constantine, Alessandro Commisso, and Jeff Brown.
