Bvlgari, an Italian luxury goods maison, was founded in 1884 by Sotirios Voulgaris. The company's name originates from the founder's surname, with the letter "V" in "Bvlgari" representing the Latin classical alphabet form of "U," hence the pronunciation aligns with "Bulgari."
Sotirio Voulgaris, the brand's Greek-born founder, mastered the art of jewelry making in his homeland. He departed his hometown in 1877, journeying through Corfu and Naples before settling in Rome in 1881, where he established Bvlgari in 1884.
In 1905, aided by his sons, Voulgaris opened the flagship store on Via dei Condotti, which swiftly gained acclaim and prosperity. The first international outposts debuted in 1970 across New York, Paris, Geneva, and Monte Carlo. Bvlgari maintained a presence at New York’s Pierre Hotel for decades and now operates nearly 300 boutiques worldwide.
While initially celebrated for its exquisite jewelry, the brand has expanded its portfolio to include watches, accessories, handbags, hotels, and fragrances. The first scent, Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert, launched in 1992.
