  Loewe is a Spanish luxury fashion and goods brand headquartered in Madrid. Founded in 1846, the company originated when a collective of leather artisans united to open a workshop in Madrid's commercial district. In 1872, Enrique Roessberg Loewe, a German leather craftsman with a profound affection for Spanish culture, arrived in Madrid and began collaborating with local artisans to establish the brand. By 1892, Loewe had firmly established its reputation as Madrid's premier leather goods atelier.

  In 1905, Loewe was appointed Official Supplier to the Royal House under King Alfonso XII, marking a significant milestone. The brand expanded across Spain with the opening of a second store in Barcelona, followed by additional locations in 1923. In 1934, Enrique Loewe Knapp, the grandson of the founder, took over the business and continued its expansion strategy.

  A pivotal shift occurred in 1945 when the first box calf bag model was developed—a design that would become the brand's signature product and facilitate its international expansion in the 1960s. The 1970s saw the launch of Loewe's first women's ready-to-wear collection, with renowned designers Karl Lagerfeld, Giorgio Armani, and Laura Biagiotti contributing designs. During this decade, the brand also introduced silk products, its distinctive monogram, and made its debut in fragrances.

  L de Loewe for women, the brand's inaugural fragrance, was introduced in 1972, followed by Loewe Loewe for men—its first men's scent—in 1974. The Asian market proved highly lucrative, with the first Japanese store opening in 1976; today, Loewe maintains over 35 stores in Japan.

  A partnership with the French luxury conglomerate LVMH in 1987 paved the way for global expansion. LVMH formally assumed creative direction in 1996, appointing Narciso Rodriguez as the designer for Loewe's women's wear. Stuart Vevers was named Creative Director in 2008, further elevating the brand's design ethos.

  Under LVMH, Loewe continues to thrive in fragrance. Aire Loewe, launched in 1985, remains one of the most popular scents in the Spanish market. The brand boasts 127 perfumes in its fragrance portfolio, with the earliest edition dating to 1972 and the latest released in 2025. These fragrances were crafted in collaboration with renowned perfumers including Carlos Benaïm, Yves Cassar, Olivier Cresp, and Quentin Bisch, among others.
