Laura Biagiotti, an Italian fashion designer affectionately dubbed the "Queen of Cashmere," was born in 1943. Her mother owned a dressmaking shop and designed uniforms for Alitalia, making fashion seem to run in the Biagiotti family. Though Laura studied archaeology at the University of Rome, she soon joined the family business. In 1965, she left to start her own clothing company with Gianni Cigna—who would later become her husband. The company initially produced and exported garments for several Italian fashion houses before securing a partnership to create ready-to-wear collections for Angelo Tarlazzi. However, Laura’s ambitions extended to designing her own line, which was fully realized in 1972 with her debut women’s collection.

Biagiotti played a pivotal role in popularizing cashmere, a luxury fabric previously underutilized in the fashion industry. She featured it in her first collection and has included it in every subsequent line.

Her designs, characterized by soft, opulent fabrics and flattering yet comfortable silhouettes, garnered widespread admiration from women. The "baby doll" dress, a beloved staple, appears in many of her collections.

Laura Biagiotti has received numerous fashion awards, and the Biagiotti legacy in fashion endures. Her daughter, Lavinia Biagiotti Cigna, joined the company and has served as Vice President since 2005.

The brand’s first fragrance,Fiori Bianchi, launched in 1982. Its 1988 release,Roma—with its distinctive marble column-inspired bottle design—became the company’s best-selling fragrance, followed by a men’s edition in 1995. To this day, Laura Biagiotti continues to release fragrances for both men and women in partnership with Procter & Gamble.
