Founded in 1856 by musical instrument maker Joachim Friedrich Schwarzlose, the German firm J.F. Schwarzlose & Sohne began as a family pharmacy enterprise established for his sons. Over time, however, Schwarzlose's sons expanded beyond the family pharmacy – located at Markgrafenstrasse 9 in Berlin – by venturing into the fragrance-making business.
The family gained considerable renown among imperial and royal figures, weathering the Great Depression and enduring two world wars. Yet like many German companies of the era, J.F. Schwarzlose struggled in the aftermath of World War II. It was declared defunct in 1976, leaving behind only extensive archives and cherished memories.
In November 2012, the historic German brand was revitalized and reintroduced to the market. This revival saw the launch of four fragrances: inspired by the house's classic scents, they were crafted in collaboration with perfumer Veronique Nyberg to resonate with contemporary consumers.
Our fragrance database features 17 perfumes from J.F. Schwarzlose Berlin, a brand that, while steeped in heritage, presents itself as a new fragrance house in its current iteration. The earliest scent in its modern portfolio dates to 2012, with the most recent release hailing from 2025. All J.F. Schwarzlose Berlin fragrances have been developed in partnership with perfumer Veronique Nyberg.
