Ermenegildo Zegna: A Legacy of Italian Menswear Excellence

Founded in 1910 by Ermenegildo Zegna, this Italian fashion house has long been renowned for crafting premium menswear. To this day, it remains a family-owned enterprise, now steered by the fourth generation of the Zegna family—upholding the brand’s century-old heritage of craftsmanship.

Zegna maintains full control over the entire production process of its clothing, overseeing every stage from fabric creation to the finished garment. Complementing this end-to-end approach, the Zegna Wool Mill was also established in 1910; it remains the sole producer of the fine wool used in Zegna suits. Globally recognized as one of the leading manufacturers of luxury fabrics, the mill produces over 2.3 million meters of high-grade wool annually. Beyond crafting its own iconic suits, Zegna also supplies wool fabrics for suits to other esteemed designers, including Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, and Tom Ford—a testament to its industry-leading expertise in wool craftsmanship. At its core, Zegna is defined by three pillars: an unwavering commitment to quality, continuous exploration of innovative technologies, and ongoing efforts to refine wool production techniques.

Zegna’s manufacturing journey began in 1910, and by the 1930s, its wool mill had grown to employ over 1,000 workers. In 1942, Ermenegildo Zegna’s sons, Aldo and Angelo, joined the family business; following their father’s passing in 1966, they took the helm. Under their leadership, the brand expanded its manufacturing footprint: a second factory was opened in Spain, followed by another in Switzerland. Today, Zegna operates eight state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities worldwide, catering to diverse consumer needs by offering both made-to-order suits (tailored to individual specifications) and ready-made suits (for immediate purchase).

In 1980, Zegna marked a key milestone in its retail expansion by opening its first boutique in Paris. Today, the brand’s global retail network boasts over 500 boutiques, with flagship stores and mega-stores strategically located in every major city across the globe—ensuring its luxury offerings are accessible to discerning customers worldwide. Alongside this retail growth, Zegna’s product range has evolved to encompass a comprehensive collection of menswear, including suits, neckties, knitwear, shirts, accessories, and fragrances.

Zegna’s foray into fragrances began with a collaboration alongside YSL Beaute, which produced its first scent. In 2011, the brand strengthened its presence in the fragrance market by signing a new licensing agreement with the Estée Lauder Companies, entrusting the latter with the production of its fragrances.
