Clue Perfumery, founded in 2022 by childhood friends perfumer Laura Oberwetter and designer Caleb Vanden Boom, is an independent perfumery based in Chicago. It takes delight in unexpected sources, balancing surreal vignettes with the familiar charm of perfume.
Each fragrance in its collection is meticulously formulated, bottled, and shipped by hand from their studio and lab in Chicago, reflecting a high standard of craftsmanship. For instance, "Morel Map" evokes the essence of a forest floor with damp, green, and loamy notes, like hints of treasure hidden on the forest floor. "Warm Bulb" recreates the scent of aged paper warmed under a lamp's light, offering a nostalgic and cozy feeling, as if a lamp's light is baking yellowed pages underneath. "With the Candlestick" combines the rich aroma of cherry wine with incense, reminiscent of spiced wine and old church atmospheres, and "The Point" captures the aroma of jasmine tea brewed with ocean water, blending floral and marine elements.
In addition to its ready - made scents, Clue Perfumery also offers bespoke fragrance services. Clients can closely collaborate with the perfumer to create a unique perfume or scent for various spaces, whether it's for a shop, hotel, event, home, or personal use. However, it should be noted that this bespoke process may take up to 2 months.
All of their fragrances are IFRA - compliant, ensuring safety. Most of their products are vegan, with the exception of "With the Candlestick" which contains trace amounts of castoreum, but a vegan version is available upon request. Clue Perfumery provides an artistic and personalized approach to the world of perfumes and colognes, inviting customers to explore scents in a whole new light.
