By Kilian is an eco-luxe parfum brand from Paris, founded by Kilian Hennessy, grandson of the LVMH group's founder. (The "H" in LVMH represents Hennessy, the renowned cognac-making dynasty.)
Kilian Hennessy spent his childhood amidst the family's wine cellars in Cognac. After graduating from a communications and language studies program—where he wrote a thesis on the semantics of odors, exploring a "common language between gods and mortals"—he apprenticed with some of perfumery’s most iconic noses. This training honed his craft as he created fragrances for top fashion houses.
In 2007, Kilian launched his own perfume house, continuing the family’s legacy of luxury craftsmanship.
Collection L'Œuvre Noire("Black Masterpiece") debuted in 2007, with annual additions expanding the line to ten fragrances to date.
Collection Arabian Nights, launched in 2009 withPure Oud, centers on oud-based scents with oriental themes, distinguished by unique packaging. Two additional oud fragrances have since joined the collection.
The brand prioritizes ecology and sustainability through refillable, reusable packaging. Perfumer formulas for each scent are also published on the official website.
By Kilian has released limited editions with luxury packaging and expanded its portfolio to include evening handbags (2011).
