BeauFort London is a niche fragrance house founded by musician and writer Leo Crabtree. Drawing inspiration from the rich history of the United Kingdom and animated by a Proustian obsession with scent, the brand launched in 2015 with the "Come Hell or High Water" triptych of eaux de parfum. This collection weaves together threads of Britain’s real and imagined past, crafting olfactory collages that embody the themes of warfare, trade, and exploration.

Crabtree’s lifelong passion for fragrance and his fascination with the darker chapters of British history provided the driving force behind the collection. Born into a family of artists, psychologists, and sailors, his first home was a boat on the River Thames. “The sea, its traditions, superstitions, and way of life are ingrained in me,” says Crabtree. “The brand’s name, BeauFort London—derived from the 1805 wind force scale devised by naval officer Sir Francis Beaufort—represents a framework through which we can understand ourselves. The wind is constant and enduring, yet ultimately changeable and potentially destructive.”

Working closely with some of Britain’s most accomplished perfumers, Crabtree has created fragrances that tap into the nation’s collective subconscious, casting light on moments from the past and bringing fleeting fragments of shared history to life on the wind.

Designer BeauFort London currently has 14 perfumes in its fragrance portfolio. As a relatively new brand, its earliest creation dates back to 2015, with the most recent addition released in 2025. BeauFort London fragrances have been developed in collaboration with perfumers Euan McCall, Julie Dunkley, and Pia Long.
