In 2011, Police unveiled a new fragrance for men, expanding its olfactory lineup with the introduction ofTo Be. This scent is presented in a glass skull-shaped bottle, accented by a metal Police-branded plate—a distinctive design detail that sets it apart.
The inspiration behind Police’s new flacon is open to intriguing interpretation: it may draw from the enigmatic crystal skulls that have fascinated archaeologists and anthropologists for decades, or it could easily serve as the ideal accessory for Johnny Depp in his iconic role as Captain Jack Sparrow from thePirates of the Caribbeanfranchise. One fact, however, is undeniable: the bottle’s striking play of light and shadow makes it a captivating piece—one that is sure to catch the eye of fragrance enthusiasts and bottle collectors alike.
The fragrance’s name, "To Be," evokes Hamlet’s timeless contemplation,"To be or not to be, that is the question"—reimagined here in a style that feels modern, masculine, and rebellious. The advertising campaign for "To Be" was shot by photographer Andrzej Dragan (of Polish descent), who collaborated with Mavive on the project. His campaign images were later exhibited at the Fondazione Museo Minguzzi, located at Via Palermo 11 in Milan.
Mirroring the adventurous spirit of its bottle design, the fragrance’s composition is equally dynamic. It opens with bold, spicy accords led by black pepper, brightened by the crisp, luminous freshness of grapefruit. A refreshing wave of violet leaves then emerges, adding a subtle, elegant layer to this new Police creation. The scent settles into a warm, grounding base, where woody notes of cedar and patchouli blend seamlessly with a delicate trail of white amber.
Since spring 2011, Police’s "To Be" fragrance has been available for purchase in a 75ml Eau de Toilette (EDT) concentration.
