Inspired by Pablo Neruda’s renowned poem, Sonnet XVII is an earthy yet soft, ethereal fragrance—one that seems to turn inward, as if inhaling even as it exhales. At its core lies an accord crafted to evoke the archetype of a Chilean mountain orchid: a bloom that unfolds quietly, free from the ostentatious flair of its tropical relatives. Far from sweet or fruity, its aroma is subtle, primal, and introspective. This orchid note is enriched by a generous dose of dark, lush osmanthus absolute—with its peachy, leathery, almost animalic undertones—alongside mastic, which imparts a distinctively bitter nuance. The result is a fragrance that defies easy categorization: floral, yet nottraditionallyfloral. It captures the essence of a flower that does not flaunt its blooms, but instead releases its scent from the earth, to be sensed on an unconscious level.
Sonnet XVII opens with top notes of citron, cubeb, white champa flower, and mastic. Its earthy foundation is built from spikenard (Nard), oakmoss, Haitian vetiver, Bourbon vanilla, woodsy accords, and musks, rounded out by a subtle touch of natural ambergris.
Conceived by perfumer Ellen Covey, Sonnet XVII was launched in 2012. It is available in three formats: a 5 ml parfum spray, a 25 ml parfum with a screw-top bottle, and a 30 ml EDP spray.
