Let yourself be carried away to a Persian childhood—even if it only ever lived in your dreams. Imagine the coziest, creamiest rice note, the sunniest orange blossom accord, and spices of exquisite depth. And let us not overlook those utterly irresistible sugared pistachios.
Undeterred by a forced marriage, lack of formal education, or societal disapproval, Mokarrameh Ghanbari picked up a paintbrush at 64 and never put it down. When paper was scarce, her art found a home on the walls of her house, her stove, and the backs of discarded wallpaper scraps. Today, she is hailed as Iran’s Picasso, and her humble home has become a museum, where charming figures seem to peek out from every nook and cranny.
Don’t say we didn’t warn you if this scent leaves you with an unshakable craving for rice pudding.
Notes: A comforting, velvety Basmati rice pudding infused with orange flower water, saffron, cinnamon, and cardamom, sprinkled with dried rose petals and piled high with sugared pistachios.
