It comes as no surprise, then, that the fruit of this unique Polish-Italian collaboration is an intensely cryptic scent—profoundly redolent of incense, entirely shrouded in curls of thick, billowing smoke.
From the House of Merlo diary: “The dreamlike opening unfolds like a visionary priest at dusk, gazing upon smoldering elemi resin in which shards of invigorating bergamot and lemon peel are suspended. The initial aromas, heralding the start of an ancient ritual, swiftly gather intensity as freshly ground pepper is added to the censer—first the more delicate white variety, then yielding to the wilder, untamed black pepper. The all-encompassing darkness invites contemplation of the infinite universe, from whose depths ancient starlight pierces, illuminating gray tendrils ascending toward it. These emanate from glowing, noble agarwood resin draped in damask rose petals, artfully interwoven with patchouli, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Just before dawn, when night is at its darkest and all around lies in pitch black, powerful, dark Frankincense sustains the ceremonial vigil. Anchored by cedar and sandalwood, wrapped in vanilla, sensual amber, and seductive musk, it evokes ancient eras when humanity first discovered fire—and with it, the extraordinary phenomenon of rising smoke.
