Today, I found myself thinking about wishes and hope.
In my pocket, I came across a rusted old coin—its owner a blur in my memory, its origin unknown, and the purpose it was meant to serve never fulfilled. As a child, whenever I found coins like this, I’d hold onto them tightly until I spotted the first well, then toss one in to make a wish.
But now, money doesn’t grant wishes, and the wells are gone—they’ve all dried up. Father told me the holy water font grew moldy, the marble cracked, and the prayers once whispered there crumbled to dust against the walls.
Yet hope still lingers in me. I know the rain will come. I’ll dissolve into the very soil I’ve walked on, and nature will take that and nurture life. And so much more will bloom again.
