Danaë
Gustav Klimt’sDanaë, painted in 1907, stands as a striking example of Symbolism. A beloved subject among artists of the early 1900s, Danaë emerged as the quintessential symbol of divine love and transcendence.
The myth tells of Danaë, imprisoned by her father Acrisius, King of Argos, in a bronze tower—yet it was here that Zeus (known as Jupiter to the Romans) visited her, manifesting in the painting as a cascade of golden rain flowing between her legs. The soft rapture on her face makes her arousal by this gilded stream unmistakable.
In Klimt’s rendering, she curls within a royal purple veil, a nod to her imperial lineage. Following this celestial union, she bore a son, Perseus, who would later etch his name in Greek mythology by slaying the Gorgon Medusa and rescuing Andromeda.
Argos Danaëis a fragrance that marries sensuality and divinity. It awakens the senses with a vibrant opening of bright bergamot and Sicilian lemon, before melting into a seductive heart of spicy pink peppercorn, deep gaiac, cedar, and cashmere wood. Anchoring the scent are its long-lasting, carnal base notes: sweet, sticky cistus, spicy patchouli, Mysore sandalwood, and intoxicating musk—all weaving a spell that leaves one utterly enraptured, as if under Danaë’s own thrall.
