True to its innovative spirit, Maison Crivelli never fails to delight. For September 2019, the house drew inspiration from an unexpected encounter with a perfume ingredient, unveiling a one-of-a-kind, contrasting creation in the realm of Haute Parfumerie. Words, sounds, notes, and textures converge in harmony, stirring the senses into awakening.

Thirty-seven degrees in the shade. A citrus frenzy—sliced kalamansi, spicy bergamot. The setting: creaking teak. An urban jungle, a jumble of fabrics. Ba-ti-kan-ga! A rhythmic medley. Roasted hazelnuts. Squeezed, struck, sliced: bodies ignited.

It was the experience of tasting freshly squeezed bergamot infused with chili that sparked Thibaud Crivelli’s vision, leading to a citrusy, spicy, and woody accord that reimagines this staple perfume ingredient in an entirely new light.

Bergamot’s juicy, exuberant, and luminous qualities, balanced by orange, give way to a fiery chili heart. This citrus-spice pairing stands in striking contrast to the warm depths of myrrh, while vetiver’s hazelnut-like nuances extend the rounded character of the signature fruit.

“In this fragrance, I’ve used bergamot—an iconic top note—in a truly original way: here, it takes center stage as the heart of the perfume. My focus isn’t on its zesty brightness or floral undertones, but rather on its subtle bitterness and hint of sharpness. The structure of this fragrance is designed to amplify bergamot: its bitterness is complemented by pomelo and rhubarb, then enhanced by vetiver and fenugreek in the base. Its fresh, sharp edge is brought to life through the distinct presence of cardamom,” explains Bertrand Duchaufour.
