Launched in 1996, the men's fragrance Acqua di Gio has enjoyed remarkable success ever since. Armani has announced the release of a new iteration – Acqua di Gio Essenza – offered as a concentrated Eau de Parfum.

Said to be a timeless yet intense reimagining of the original, Acqua di Gio Essenza is described as profoundly carnal and sensual. Departing from the original's marine focus, it leans more heavily into woody and ambery harmonies. Once again, the fragrance is the creation of Alberto Morillas.

Its composition opens with luminous notes of the cascalone molecule – which evokes the olfactory sensation of cold, fresh water – alongside sparkling citrus notes of bergamot and grapefruit. At its heart lie floral and aromatic accords of jasmine, basil, and sage, enhanced by the vibrant, explosive floral character of the paradisone molecule. The base, meanwhile, weaves together notes of patchouli, cedar, vetiver, ambrox, ambergris, pepper, and clary sage.

Acqua di Gio Essenza is available in 40ml, 75ml, and 170ml Eau de Parfum formulations.
